Honduran President Xiomara Castro announced a new agreement with the US for the continuation of the extradition treaty, ensuring necessary safeguards for Honduras. This agreement comes just ten days before the treaty's expiration amidst prior accusations of US interference.

The President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, announced that her government has reached an agreement with the United States Administration for the bilateral extradition treaty to continue. This decision comes just ten days before the treaty was set to expire, following the Honduran leader's complaints of U.S. 'interference.'

'I announce that I have reached an agreement with the new administration of the United States for the Extradition Treaty to continue with the necessary safeguards for the State of Honduras, guaranteeing its objective application,' emphasized Castro in a message.

The president stressed the importance of this agreement in the framework of relations between Honduras and the United States, assuring that the appropriate conditions have been established to protect the interests of the Central American country.

This announcement follows diplomatic tensions between the two countries over allegations of interference in Honduras's internal affairs. The continuity of the extradition treaty is crucial for cooperation in security and justice between the two nations.
