Honduras Elections Conclude Without Irregularities

The general elections in Honduras concluded at 6:00 PM local time in Tegucigalpa (9:00 PM in Argentina) with no reports of irregularities. There were only delays in the opening of polling stations, and the National Electoral Council (CNE) authorized an extra hour for voting due to the high voter turnout. The official start of the Honduran general elections was at 7:00 AM local time (10:00 AM in Argentina) by two of the three CNE councilors: its president, Ana Paola Hall from the Liberal Party, and Marlon Ochoa from the Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre). Over six million Hondurans were called to the polls to elect a new president, three presidential designees, 298 mayors, 128 deputies to the National Congress, and 20 representatives to the Central American Parliament. According to data gathered by the Argentine News Agency (NA), the presidents of the United States and Argentina publicly supported one of the candidates in the final hours, despite Honduras being under a five-day pre-election 'silence period' that began on Tuesday. Trump backed candidate Nasry Asfura, and Javier Milei did the same hours later, due to his direct criticism of Venezuela, Cuba, and China, which had maintained significant influence over the Honduran government through agreements signed with current President Xiomara Castro.
