Tegucigalpa, December 1 (NA) — Conservative candidate Nasry Asfura is leading in the Honduran election with 40.6% of the votes in the preliminary count, international media reported. Salvador Nasralla is in second place with 38.8%, and Rixi Moncada from the ruling Libre party is third with 19.6%, according to Noticias Argentinas agency citing French media RFI. The French outlet interprets the results as "a strong punishment for the movement founded by former President Manuel Zelaya". There is also distrust in the vote count in Honduras, the same source indicates. Nasry Asfura, a businessman, is popularly known as "Papi a la orden," a phrase he popularized when he was mayor of Tegucigalpa. He ran in this election with the support of US President Donald Trump, who issued his opinions during the Honduran electoral blackout, something Argentine Javier Milei, aligned with the American strongman, imitated on Saturday.
