An explosive device was thrown at a deputy of the opposition National Party of Honduras this Thursday, minutes before a parliamentary session. The blast occurred when several deputies from the National Party were accompanying their faction leader, Tomás Zambrano, who was speaking to journalists. The explosion injured deputy Gladys Aurora Lopez on her back and head, causing her to fall to the floor. She was then taken to a hospital in the capital. The newly elected president of Honduras, Nasry 'Tito' Asfura, condemned the incident and expressed hope that the deputy Lopez would recover quickly. He emphasized that such incidents cannot happen and that the country must move forward with respect for the law and in peace. Asfura stated that it is not through violence or hatred that the country will progress. He added that there is now a clear choice with a new president and a new Congress, and everyone must respect the law and work to provide answers to the people.
