The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras declared Nasry Asfura, candidate of the National Party, as the elected and constitutional president of the Central American country for the 2026-2030 term, following the general elections held on November 30. According to official CNE data, with over 99% of the vote counted, Asfura received 1,479,822 votes, equivalent to 40.27% of the total, followed closely by the candidate of the Liberal Party, Salvador Nasralla, who reached 1,452,796 votes (39.53%). In third place was the ruling party candidate Rixi Moncada, from the Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre), with 706,266 votes, representing 19.19% of the total. The official proclamation came 24 days after the election day, in a context marked by failures in the vote counting system and complaints of alleged irregularities raised by various political actors, including the candidates Nasralla and Moncada themselves, who questioned the transparency of the process. More than six million Hondurans were called to the polls to elect, in addition to the president, 298 mayors, 120 deputies to the National Congress, and 20 representatives to the Central American Parliament, in one of the most competitive elections in recent years in Honduras.
