Honduran Electoral Council Denounces Serious Delays in Vote Count

The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras, Ana Paola Hall, reported on Saturday that «serious delays in the special scrutiny» of the general elections held on November 30 continue and that there is a «climate of intimidation» at the Electoral Logistics Center (CLE).

«Little progress is being made, including zero-minute minutes and a climate of intimidation against electoral officials and members proposed by political parties,» warned Hall, who represents the Liberal Party. «How difficult it is not to conclude that an attempt is being made to trap us both, from which we cannot escape, and that this makes it impossible for the electoral process to move forward,» she warned.

Hall also denounced that today's shift A, accredited in the special scrutiny from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time (1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. GMT), with nearly 100 Boards formed, processed approximately 112 presidential minutes, something she described as «unprecedented, when the initially estimated time for the scrutiny at the presidential level was 40 minutes on average».

«I repeat that all members of Special Boards are proposed by political parties. An urgent and emphatic call is made to the Parties to immediately replace the members of Boards who are engaging in these regrettable actions,» added the president of the council.

The special scrutiny for 2,792 electoral minutes with inconsistencies was scheduled to begin on Saturday, December 13, but began last Thursday.

The presidential candidate of the National Party, Nasry 'Tito' Asfura, who is supported by U.S. President Donald Trump, leads with 40.29% over Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party, who has 39.57%, when 99.86% of the minutes have been scrutinized. The candidate of the ruling Libre Party, Rixi Moncada, is in third place with 19.13%, according to the official preliminary report from the CNE, which is being updated frequently.

Hall also indicated that this issue, which is a matter of national security, was to be addressed in the session that was sabotaged by a Councilor» (Marlon Ochoa, representatives of the left-wing ruling party Libertad y Refundación, Libre), she said in a message on the social network X. She added that «at this point, it is clear that there are sectors within political parties that are delaying the scrutiny and complicating the elections».

Hall pointed out that the CNE continues to «face actions whose purpose is to interrupt and delay the electoral process» and that «pressures are increasing» for her and also councilor Cossette López to «attend in person a plenary session» of that body.

«It is legal and normal to session virtually. Why does a Councilor insist so much today that we show up in person?»
